Why UFOs and Aliens intrigue us
Reports of close encounters with alien spacecraft and beings have been recorded for centuries, from ancient accounts of mysterious objects in the sky to modern UFO sightings. The contemporary era began in 1947, when American pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing unusual flying objects near Mount Rainier, followed shortly by the widely publicised Roswell incident. During the 1950s and 1960s, reports increasingly described encounters with apparent extraterrestrial beings, including alleged landings and abductions, most famously the 1961 Betty and Barney Hill case. Subsequent decades brought further claims, such as the 1980 Rendlesham Forest incident in England and the 1990s wave of alien-abduction accounts. Although some sightings remain unexplained, investigations have often attributed them to misidentified aircraft, natural phenomena, psychological factors or hoaxes. In recent years, official investigations into unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) have renewed scientific and public interest; however, no publicly verified evidence has yet established that any encounter involved extraterrestrial spacecraft or beings.
